Temper is made by STILLWELL STUDIO, LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to the things you write in the app. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate, because you should actually be able to tell what happens to your entries.
The short version: your entries live on your phone. We do not have accounts, we cannot read your journal, and we do not sell or share your personal information. When you use an AI feature, the relevant text is sent to our AI provider to generate a response, and is not stored on our servers afterward.
We do not collect your entries. Temper has no user accounts and no sign-in. Your moods, journal entries, chats, body-map selections, and everything else you record are stored locally on your device. We have no server-side database of user content and no way to browse, read, or export what you have written.
The limited information that does leave your device is described below.
Some features — chat, Today's Reading, Insights, Portrait, Your Nature, and pattern prompts — are generated by an artificial-intelligence model. When you use one of these, the text needed to answer (recent entries and the relevant context) is transmitted over an encrypted connection to our processing service, which forwards it to our AI provider, Anthropic, and returns the response to your device.
iCloud backup (optional, and switchable in Settings) writes a copy of your data to your own private iCloud container, under your Apple ID. It goes to Apple, not to us. We cannot see it, and it is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Manual backup creates a file that you choose what to do with — save it, AirDrop it, email it to yourself. It never passes through us.
The Temper subscription is billed by Apple. We never see your card, billing address, or Apple ID. To know whether your subscription is active, we use RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, which receives an anonymous identifier and your purchase status. Apple's and RevenueCat's own privacy policies apply to that processing.
The app checks for over-the-air updates through Expo's update service, which receives standard technical information such as app version and device platform in order to serve the right update. It does not receive your entries.
Playlist links open Spotify or Apple Music. Once you leave Temper, that company's privacy policy governs what happens next. We do not tell them who you are or why you tapped the link.
Because your data lives on your device, you hold it directly. You can delete any entry in the app, export everything through Backup, and remove all of it permanently by deleting the app (and by turning off iCloud Backup or deleting the backup file, if you used them).
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to withdraw consent. Since we hold no account and no copy of your content, most of these you can exercise yourself in the app. For anything else, write to us at the address below.
Some of what you record — moods, symptoms, sleep, cycle information — may count as consumer health data under laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act. We do not sell it, do not share it for cross-context advertising, and do not disclose it except as described in this policy. Where consent is required, using an AI feature is how you provide it, and you can decline simply by not using those features.
Temper is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Data in transit is encrypted. Data at rest on your device is protected by your device's own security. No system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where the change is significant, say so in the app.
